Osstell device

The Osstell device is a resonance frequency analyzer, which allows determination of the stability of an implant (fixture) and the bone quality. The device is attached to the fixture or abutment to measure the resonance frequency using a small handheld transducer that functions like an electronic tuning fork. The measured result is displayed on the indicator screen as an implant stability quotient (ISQ) value. This value varies depending on the peri-implant bone height and quality, bonding, and stable conditions of the implant. Thus, this device allows measurement of stablility during implant placement and changes in bone bonding (osseointegration) and bone formation (osteogenesis) over time. Predictable functional timing and possible failures of the implant (fixture) suggest that the Osstell device is effective for early or immediate loaded implants.
