Loss of an upper back tooth results in extension of a hollow portion in the upper jawbone called the sinus. In cases with insufficient bone height for implant placement, sinus lift can help correct this problem by raising the sinus floor using autogenous bone (i.e., the patient's own bone) or an artificial bone replacement material.
